Setting Up a Basic Back-in-Stock Notification Flow

When a popular product sells out, visitors still arrive. A back-in-stock notification captures their interest and brings them back when the item returns.

Core steps

  1. Show a "Notify me" button on sold-out product pages.
  2. Collect only an email address (and the variant), with a short consent note.
  3. When stock returns above a threshold, send an email with the product image, a direct link and an honest note that quantities are limited.
  4. Track clicks and conversions.

Good practice

Pair with inventory data

Use the sign-up counts as a demand signal. A product with many requests should be reordered earlier, and the data supports negotiations with suppliers.

Tools

Many store platforms and apps provide this feature. Compare options in the Facebook520 tool directory.

Testing the flow

Before publishing, test the entire flow: sign up for an alert on a sold-out variant, update the stock quantity in the admin, and check that the email is sent with the right product link and language. Test with mobile and desktop email clients. Pay attention to variants: customers waiting for size M should not receive an alert when only size L returns. Review sent volume weekly to make sure the automation is not repeating messages by mistake.
